• UNICORN FRAPPUCCINO REVIEW

Wow folks. I’m back after a bit of a hiatus due to a huge newsworthy event happening at everyone’s favorite neighborhood (read: corporate giant) coffee shop, Starbucks. From April 19 (the past) to April 23 (the future), stores will be dishing out the new Unicorn Frappuccino. And, if you were wondering how a drink can be named after a mythical creature, with enough sparkly pink sugar dust, sour blue sauce, and cream, anything is possible. It has been taking the Instagram world by storm, just search the hashtag #unicornfrappuccino and you are bound to be wowed by the beautiful colorful pictures. I had to try it for myself, and boy was…

  • Four Pounds of Pork for One…

This past weekend when I had the house to myself, I decided to make a nice meal with plenty of leftovers to sustain me through a weekend of Golden Girls on the couch. I was walking through the grocery store and saw a wicked sale on a pork shoulder roast ($1.29/pound). I quickly searched up a recipe on my phone and landed on a Cuban Pork Shoulder recipe from OurFullPlate.com that you can read in full here. It was cooked in the slow cooker, so I knew that it would be a great jumping off point for me. For Under $10 I walked out of the store with a beautiful 4 pound pork shoulder, fresh…

  • Quick Crostini to Clear out the Cupboard

This weekend has been a good one for Jack. I’ve had a bit of an “-itis” (read as: sickness) going on with my throat, so I have been on a soup rampage. I made a recreation of Anne Burrell’s Chicken Noodle Soup. It had such a warming effect on me that put me in a good mood for riding the train to feeling better (along with a perfect ratio of ibuprofen to lemon water to BoJack Horseman on Netflix). For my soup, I ended up grabbing a big loaf of french bread from the grocery store. I toasted up the bread to have on the side that evolved into giant…

  • 3 Bean Veggie “Mouth Fire” Chili

Last night I was feeling motivated to make a nice dinner for me and the roomies to warm up after a chilly (get ready for the pun) winter day. I was looking through a couple of cookbooks for inspiration, and settled on making a hearty chili (and… there it was). You may not know this yet, but I don’t really follow recipes. I look at  a few recipes, learn about the dish from a conceptual standpoint, and then dive in with my own flair and pizazz (yeah… you may want to stop reading my blog at this point… But I promise that the corniness will ease up a little). I headed…

  • Making it to Day 10: The Green Smoothie Cleanse

I have an early childhood memory of my grandma making mashed potatoes out of cauliflower in a blender. She then applied a healthy layer of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter spray. This was a recipe straight out of the early 2000’s popular diet: The South Beach Diet. After seeing my grandparents calling cauliflower potatoes because of a turquoise book, I never thought that I would be taking part in a trendy restrictive diet or event a 10 day detoxifying cleanse. First off, I have a pretty slender build, so major weight loss is usually not in the cards for me. Secondly (and more importantly), I love food. I crave flavor, texture, temperature, and…
