Jack’s 2017 Oscar Ballot

I have been running (read as: sprinting) from movie to movie for the past month and some change to mentally prepare myself for this post.

I love movies. I also love a good gamble. SO, filling out an Oscar Ballot makes a lot of sense to me each year. A few friends and I all fill out ballots each year and compare scores. (I have a strong track record if memory serves *wink*)

Usually, I don’t make it to as many movies as I’d like to in time for the Oscars, but this year was different. I found a great $5 weekday movie theater and made a list of what I’d like to see. The nominated movies I ended up seeing this season were Arrival, Fences, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Moonlight, Suicide Squad, Sully, Rogue One, Moana, Trolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Zootopia.

I worry that because I saw so many of the nominated movies, I may let my personal feelings towards the movies cloud my judgement. Example: At one point in Moonlight, there is a pot on the stove heating up water for tea and the pot shakes back and forth, making this clicking sound. That detail melted me – It was so awesome. For that, it should win every sound award from the Jack Academy of Motion Picture Reviewing. BUT, I am going to do my best to put myself in the shoes of the actual Academy.

I do have a whole lot of opinions though, which I will recap later this week after results are shared this evening. (If Moana doesn’t win best animated picture, I’ll likely be sobbing).
